No, not really.  But we did just win an award.  Hooray!

Fleurtacious Designs was featured in the May Issue of Capital Region Living in the Women Owned Business section and was also voted the 2nd best florist in the capital region!

Personally, I think we are the 1st best florist in the capital region, but why quibble when someone’s giving you an award?  Next year we will have to up our game and take first…  We will be sure to keep you posted on how to help us take the lead. :)

Friends or Anemones?

How can something SO beautiful, make you feel SO miserable?!

Blasted allergies, ruining the joy of flowers.

Well for those of you who thought you had to pass up roses due to the allergic reaction you seem to have whenever they are around, there may be hope for you yet!  One of our floral know-it-alls (and I mean this kindly) informed me the other day, that a reaction to “roses” may ACTUALLY be… (wait for it)… a reaction to the BABY’S BREATH that is often put IN the roses!!! This is definitely worth looking into if it means you can have roses back in your life!  I am a bit partial being the rabid rose-lover that I am.  If I thought I had a rose allergy I would definitely want to know this juicy tidbit!

There may be some flowers which are better enjoyed from a distance (say the distance of several miles or through a window?), some of the most deliciously fragrant ones, for example.  I did find a handy little description about which flowers and trees cause sufferers the most trouble.  You can find it here.  Thankfully, we no longer need to include roses in the list of troublemakers (well we never did need to, actually)!  Thank goodness for florists and their wealth of flora-culture information.  (I have the best job, EVER).

What’s Up, Buttercup?

Buttercup is one of my very favorite terms of endearment.  Underused, in my opinion.  Especially when you consider how many perfectly adorable flowers fall into this flower family.   Buttercups, Larkspur, Clematis, Columbine, Anemones, & Monkshood!  All members of one big happy family.  I came across this great website which details the some wildflower members of the buttercup family tree.

I am sure some of you might like to trade of a Mother In Law or Uncle for one of these sweet babies!  I could make a couple trades, if pressed…

My husband likes to tell people crazy fictional stories about us going on walks and how he has to physically restrain me from stealing columbine seeds from other people’s front yards.  He likes to make me sound like a nutty flower lady.  I rebut with the flawless logic that at least I don’t hoard cats.   Its not like the Columbine was any old color.  It was the perfect shade of dark purple, the one that I have been wanting for several years now!!  If they really didn’t want to share those seeds with others it seems like they would have planted those plants a little further back on their yard. Right??

By now, some fellow flower lovers may be concerned that I have not yet mentioned the blessed queen of the buttercup family.  Fear not:

RANUNCULUS.

Floral Perfection.

Quick tip: for readers who always go with roses because (they are perfect) they are classic and they are a known quantity (you husbands know who you are) here is an awesome opportunity to surprise the world.  Next time you order flowers, ask for a few ranunculuses in your arrangement.  They will look great with your roses *wink* (what doesn’t!?)
