I am so happy I chose Fleurtacious Designs for my wedding. When I first met Kris Ann I had a vague idea and color scheme in mind for my bouquets and centerpieces. I have no knowledge of flowers and she was able to help me select all different types by showing me countless photographs of previous work. She created what I thought was perfect. Then less than a week before the wedding I changed my mind completely!! I wanted to incorporate red roses and tiny light pink roses in a completely green and white arrangement. Kris Ann was so understanding and helped me figure out how I could do this and make it look beautiful and elegant while staying within my price range.

I loved my floral arrangements so much I actually hired a woman who specializes in silk flowers to recreate the bouquets for my mom, mother-in-law, and self. Kris Ann and her team are experts and you will be extremely pleased if you choose them for your wedding day.

Pretty in Pink

Amy and Ryan tied the knot in September at Saratoga National. Pink is such a romantic color and these bouquets went perfectly with the bridesmaid dresses. How cute are the flower girls?! The bride & girls carried bouquets of roses – the bride has standard size roses in soft pink & ivory and for the girls standard roses and spray roses in shades of soft to medium pinks.

Take a look at their wedding trailer here filmed by Clark+Walker Studio!

Check out one of our summer weddings from the past. This is a perfect example of how flowers can truly make a wedding! These colorful florals really pop and are the focal point of the reception. Sherry told me to have “fun with it” so thats what I did. Hands down a great wedding with a select group of friends that I was lucky enough to be a part of.

Stephen and Sherry’s wedding was photographed by Joe Elario Photography.

Wedding Season Begins!

Well, with Mothers’ Day behind us, we now find ourselves firmly planted (pun intended)  in wedding season.  We thought it only fitting that we turn our attention to the great season of weddings.

*Disclaimer- Since I absolutely LOVE Fleurtacious Designs, and I LOVE Kris Ann Elario & her work, you should know ahead of time, that my opinions are my own and that even though Kris Ann & Fleurtacious probably totally agree with what I am saying and really like that I am saying it, she would never brag the way I will.  So please retain in your mind Kris Ann’s image as a wholly humble human bean and entrepreneur. Ok, Disclaimer over, now the fun stuff.

Lets dig in. (pun intended. face it. they will always be intended.)

Bridal Bouquets

With so many options of flowers, colors, textures, and styles to choose from, how does one choose the perfect bridal bouquet?

One way is to collect your favorite images and get thee to Kris Ann’s office.  If you don’t know what you want, its no worry because she is a miracle worker and mind reader (see- bragging, I did warn you!)

You can also sift through your foot tall stack of bridal magazines looking for the perfect bouquet which someone else has already worked out for you.  This is the quick and easy method.  For those who like the long and arduous method (like me!!) here are some ideas to get you started creating your bouquet from scratch…

Take a Visual Approach:

For some this decision will be purely visual.  Elements of the existing theme will point to the flowers which are best for the bridal bouquet.

Maybe your wedding is in the fall and for practical (using flowers available in the fall) and aesthetic reasons you will want to feature fall colors and textures.

Or it may be that your wedding style is vintage and you need peonies, dusty miller, mason jars, and a rustic barn to achieve your desired effect (personal favorite!). Other great flowers for vintage include: hydrangea, roses, dahlias, berries, ivy, garden roses, sweet pea, ranunculus… There are some flowers that just wouldn’t look right and you are right to forgo the tropicals and bright colored gerberas in favor of allegiance to your visual theme.

Center Around Your Favorite Color:

And by “favorite color” what I clearly mean is WHATEVER COLOR(S) YOU HAVE ALREADY SELECTED FOR YOUR WEDDING! It would be a darn shame if you favorite color was rust and your wedding was all in teal. You know what I mean?  I digress.

If you love the color purple you may be most enamored with bouquets filled with iris, anemone, violets, hyacinths, sweet peas, lisianthus, and deep dark purple stock (i don’t mean “inventory”, its just a weird flower name, isn’t it?).

If pink is your ticket, the bouquet shown here to the left, may be just what you are looking for with its attache roses, garden roses, dahlias, cockscomb, and mini callas.

You may love orange (Kris Ann and I share a love of this brilliant and overlooked color!) and you may decide you only want every available shade of orange rose in your dream bouquet, which brings me to…

Go With Your Favorite Flower:

There may be a specific flower which has always been your favorite… Such a long standing preference might steer you in the direction of a bouquet of only tulips, or only roses. These types of bouquets have such enduring appeal. Simple, beautiful, and if it is your favorite flower, what could be better than a whole bouquet of what you love best!?

Fill Your Bouquet With Sentimental Symbolism:

Did anyone else catch the flowers in the Royal Wedding bouquet? Lily of the Valley (which is becoming an impossibly expensive option because of the Royal Bouquet!!), Hyacinth, here is the important part– Sweet William (aww!), and Myrtle that Queen Victoria planted back in 1845!  How is that for sentiment and history!! You can do this too.

In fact, this approach is a personal favorite and one I used to choose my own bouquet back in March 2010. (but that is another post) Here are a few ways to do this:

1. Incorporate symbolism into your bouquet with flowers that have had meaning to you, individually or as a couple, throughout your lives.

2. Use flowers to represent people who aren’t able to be with you on your wedding day, or to celebrate family members who are important to you.

3. Focus the bouquet around the first flowers the groom gave the bride (or vice versa, this is the modern era people!) expounding on the colors or the flowers in that first bouquet.

4.Incorporate  non-floral sentimental elements into the bouquet.  Wrap the stems in a piece of cloth fabric which has sentimental value (a piece of grandma’s wedding gown, a dress you wore on your first date, etc).  Attach a piece of jewelry that has significance to your families.

There are many ways to add symbolic meaning to this very personal accessory. :) Whatever approach you take, may your bouquet be stunning and bring you lots of joy!
